Two Grannies on the Road – In the Beginning
I’ve never explained exactly why and how the idea for Two Grannies on the Road came about. I tell the story now because I want to encourage anyone who has a dream to pursue it, no matter what you think the obstacles might be.
I really do have my best ideas while in the shower! This particular day, about five years ago, I was having a little pity party, bemoaning the fact that as a self-employed business owner, I hadn’t been able to take a vacation in years. I had always wanted to take my kids across country in an RV, taking off for a month or two, so that they could see what a great country we have. But that never happened, and now they are grown with full-time jobs and children. I missed that bus. Still, I wanted to see the country myself. Poor me, I hadn’t been able to even take a week off, never mind a month or two.
Over the years I’ve worked really hard to maintain a positive, can-do attitude, so I knew that I had to change my way of thinking. Then it hit me. I basically have a virtual business – I can work from a computer anywhere, and I can even promote my business online! So, why not figure out a way to keep working AND see the country? Maybe I could promote my web design business to campgrounds and RV parks across the country, booking website work along the way!
OK, that seemed like a plan that could work. However, I realized that I wouldn’t want to travel alone. What fun is that? I wasn’t dating anyone at the time. So who could I get to go with me? Ah yes, my good friend and graphic designer, Ginny Just! I knew she was the adventurous type, and she can also work with clients virtually. Perfect!
Then it came to me – Two Grannies on the Road!
I couldn’t wait to share my idea with Ginny. Of course, she loved it. And so it began.
Ginny and I will continue to share the process of developing the Two Grannies on the Road plan, our successes and failures, and how our mission evolved. I’m hoping this will inspire you to think outside the box, step outside your comfort zone, and – JUST DO IT!
